Learn how you can discover art at Wyresdale Park.

Nestled just behind Blackleys furniture shop, Poetry & Prose sits within a beautiful courtyard adjacent to Wyresdale Hall. This rustic art studio and gallery provides the perfect retreat for all the family. The resident artist Sara not only produces beautiful commissioned artwork but delivers an exciting calendar of art activities and art classes for children throughout the week.

Poetry & Prose aims to get all the family engaged in art and creative practices, whilst creating a fusion between art and nature by utilising the beautiful environment of Wyresdale Park within the studio. Sara’s studio also boasts an open studio policy, meaning everyone is welcome at any time to visit the studio, browse the collection of original artwork or simply watch the traditional techniques of printmaking or painting in action. When the weather is nice, classes are also taken outdoors with en plein air drawing and painting lessons, as well as environmental lessons which develop botanical drawing techniques through studies of all nature around Wyresdale Park. The studio offers a range of artistic processes, from painting and drawing to ceramics and printmaking, you are sure to find something you love!

Art in all its forms is a fundamental aspect of learning and development at any stage and Sara has spent much of her life researching creativity in education and presenting at International Conferences. The art studio at Wyresdale is one of the few independent art studios in Lancashire open to the public and actively encourages people to get involved with discussion and practical lessons. Group classes are run at the weekend with the Saturday Art Club available to children of all ages. Private tuition runs throughout the week and weekends at various times. All events can be found on the Poetry & Prose website, along with details of upcoming exhibitions, Country Shows and much more. You can even listen to Sara being interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live!

Wyresdale Park has a history of art and culture dating back many years, so we are delighted to have our resident artist on site. Many of Sara’s original lino prints and beautiful pen and ink drawings can be purchased in the Applestore Café and Blackleys as well as directly from the studio, offering you the opportunity to take a piece of Wyresdale home with you and own an original piece of art. So next time you’re visiting the Trough of Bowland, why not head to Wyresdale Park and discover some amazing art in Lancashire. Contact the studio to book a place and prepare to let your imagination run wild!
